Nothing Announces Launch Date for Phone 2A: Affordable Smartphone with Simplified Design

Nothing, a London-based technology company known for its smartphones and earbuds, is set to launch its next hardware, Phone (2a), following Phone (1) and Phone (2). The phone is designed to appeal to customers who don’t need the most advanced specs or expensive features and will be more affordable than the Phone (2). Co-founder Carl Pei explained that Phone 2(a) is designed to appeal to different sets of users across the community, such as tech-savvy users seeking the latest specs or core smartphone functionalities.

Launch Date for Phone 2A

Nothing has announced a March 5th launch date for its upcoming Phone 2A in a new video posted today. The event will take place at 11:30AM GMT (6:30AM ET), the company confirmed on X. The Developer Program sounds like a similar release approach to the one Nothing took with its original Phone 1, which came to the US as part of a “Beta Membership” that saw interested customers pay $299 to “test” the phone. Last year’s Phone 2 got a more official US release, but it was fully compatible with both T-Mobile and AT&T.

Nothing hasn’t explicitly confirmed that the Phone 2A will be a more affordable alternative to the Phone 2, but it’s heavily implied. Reports suggest the phone is set to cost under €400 in the EU, which translates to around $430 in the States, and come equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor.

Conflicting Reports on Nothing’s Phone 2A Design

When it comes to the phone’s design, there have been conflicting reports, including one leaked render that was later retracted. This leaked design suggests that the phone could come with a simplified Glyph interface consisting of just three light strips rather than the 11 found on the Phone 2. The dual cameras could be oriented horizontally in the center of the back of the phone like a pair of eyes, supporting Nothing’s “See the world through fresh eyes” tagline.
