Google Bard unsatisfied users urge to follow ChatGPT

Google Bard is a conversational AI technology that competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Both of these AI chatbots are designed to generate responses to prompts. While ChatGPT is trained on a huge amount of internet text, called a large language model, Google Bard was trained on a specific dataset for conversations. This leads some to argue that ChatGPT is better at producing paragraphs and summaries and other text-based processing tasks, while Google Bard is better at conversations

Asking an online AI community what features they would want to see in Bard, Google’s competitor chatbot to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, seems like a nice idea for a Google product team.

Chris Gorgolewski, a product manager on the Bard team, asked users in a Reddit discussion thread this week what additional Bard features they would like to see. Among the most requested additions were iOS and Android applications, which OpenAI has had for ChatGPT since May for iOS and July for Android. Users want either a separate Bard app or a connection with Google’s Assistant app.

Both of them are on their way. Gorgolewski shared links to blogs from last October by Bard Vice President Sissie Hsiao, who said that Assistant with Bard is still in its early stages but would be available to the public “over the next few months.” Users continue to wait.

Image generator requests were also significant, with users requesting integration with Google’s Imagen model, similar to how ChatGPT can produce images using DALL-E 3. Users also wanted custom instructions, which ChatGPT currently offers, so they could have Bard respond to inquiries in a certain manner, such as by creating replies concisely.

“Way behind gpt-3.5,” wrote a user known as ‘bambin0.’ “To be honest, I have a big list for you. I’m constantly drawn back to OpenAI.” Users also wanted a music generator, which ChatGPT cannot provide. Lyria, Google’s music generating model, will be included in YouTube creator tools later this year.

Changes to the guardrails on what users might want from Bard were another of the most popular requests. Redditors claimed that Bard’s parental settings should not be more stringent than Google’s. Furthermore, if Bard did not provide a solution, respondents said that they would just use Google to look for that answer.

“No censorship, please,” user’mbaisthebest1′ implored, before adding another request for “a rude and controversial option, which will be very unique compared to other models.”

Bard has gotten many improvements from Google since its introduction in March, including increased language support, enhanced coding skills, and extensions to other Google services like Gmail, Docs, YouTube, and Google Maps.

Users who desired a more powerful version of Bard will have their wish granted: Google plans to release Gemini Ultra for Bard later this year. For the time being, consumers just want Bard to be more like market leader ChatGPT. “Build an app and achieve feature parity with the ChatGPT app,” said user ‘rm-rf_.”
