Apple has announced a surprising number of iPhones that will work with the new iOS software. The new software will be released in September after being announced in June and going through public beta in July. MacRumors says they have a new report that lists which iPhones have made it into the software of 2024. However, this report has been deleted because the account wants to stay low-key and many of its deleted posts were factual.
Potential iOS 18 Compatibility
The rumour says all phones from the iPhone XR onwards are compatible, including the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, as they contain the same processor, the A12 Bionic chip. This is the exact same list as those that use the latest iOS 17 software. If your iPhone can run iOS 17, it looks like it will run iOS 18. This is great news for iPhone users who are eager to upgrade to the latest software without worrying about compatibility issues. The fact that the iPhone Xs and Xs Max are also included in the list of compatible devices is a relief for those who recently purchased these models.
Biggest iOS Update Yet
Apple has done this before, where the list of compatible iPhones is rolled over completely for another year. However, the current rumours suggest that iOS 18 is a very big update, perhaps the biggest-ever. It is likely that the range of new features will not be completely the same across the board. There are believed to be AI features in iOS 18, which could be very demanding on the processor. Perhaps the iPhone 16 will be able to handle some tasks on-device which earlier iPhones would need access to the cloud to achieve.
