It’s that time again to move our clocks forward for daylight saving time. This happens every year, and even if we have different feelings about it, we all need to do it.
What is Daylight Saving Time?
In the spring, we set our clocks forward by an hour at 2 a.m. on a Sunday. This year, it will be on March 10. It means we lose an hour of sleep that night, but we get more sunlight in the evening from then on.
Daylight saving time started in 1966 in the whole country. Before that, each place decided on its own if they wanted to do it or not.

Who Came Up with Daylight Saving Time?
Some people think Benjamin Franklin started daylight saving time, but he didn’t. It was actually William Willet in 1907. He thought it would be good if we had more daylight in the evening.
Germany was the first country to use daylight saving time in 1916 to save energy during the war. Other countries started doing it too after that.
Even though not everyone likes changing their clocks, daylight saving time in 2024 means we’ll enjoy longer evenings starting in March.
