Samsung Galaxy to unveil S24 lineup at Galaxy Unpacked 2024

Samsung Galaxy to unveil S24 lineup at Galaxy Unpacked 2024

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event is almost here. It will happen on January 17, 2024, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The last Unpacked event took place in 2023 in Seoul, South Korea.

At this year’s event, Samsung is likely to show off three new Galaxy smartphones, a new AI tool, and a health/fitness ring. Everything we could have seen at the major event is detailed below.

Samsung Galaxy S24

Samsung is set to unveil its next flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S24, with a 6.2-inch display, slightly larger than the Galaxy S23’s 6.1-inch display. The device is expected to feature a dynamic AMOLED 2X display and a higher peak brightness of 2,600 nits or more. The regular model is expected to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and a larger 4,000 mAh battery, a 100 mAh increase from the S23. All three models will have Android 14 preinstalled with either Samsung One UI 6 or 6.1.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus

Samsung has confirmed that its mid-priced “Plus” Galaxy model, the Galaxy S24 Plus, will not be discontinued in 2024. The device is expected to have a flat-screen with slimmer bezels, a 50MP main lens, 2x and 3x optical zoom options, and 30x Space Zoom. The battery capacity is also expected to increase from 4,700 mAh to 4,900 mAh. The display will be a 6.7-inch screen, up from the 6.6-inch screen on the Galaxy S23 Plus, with the same 2,600 nits peak display brightness.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is set to undergo significant changes compared to previous generations, including a titanium frame, a flat-screen with no curved edges, and slimmer bezels. The device is expected to have a 6.8-inch WQHD display with a 1440p resolution, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which could reduce the S24 Ultra’s weight by up to 10%.

The camera setup is expected to be improved, with a quad-camera setup on the rear, including a 200 MP primary camera, 50 MP and 10 MP telephoto cameras, and a 12 MP ultrawide camera. The camera sensors, including the 200 MP primary lens, are also expected to be improved. There is debate over whether the 10x optical zoom range will remain or if Samsung will step back to 5x. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s battery is expected to remain the same at 5,000 mAh.

Galaxy S24 series pricing and availability

Samsung is set to release new Galaxy phones this year, including purple, orange, and yellow colors, along with black and gray options. Exclusive colors may be available for purchase on Samsung’s official website. Prices for the base model S24 may start at $800, with the S24 Plus starting at $1,000 and the flagship S24 Ultra at $1,200. Rumors suggest slight price increases for the S24 and S24 Plus, while the S24 Ultra may see a small price increase.

Galaxy AI

Samsung has introduced Galaxy AI, a proprietary generative AI model, as the biggest new feature for all Galaxy S24 phones. Galaxy AI consists of three main components: Samsung Gauss Language, which generates text, translations, and answers questions; Samsung Gauss Code, which simplifies code writing and editing; and Samsung Gauss Image, which generates images. While some are excited about this AI advancement, others are doubtful, and it remains to be seen if Galaxy AI can compete with ChatGPT.

Samsung Galaxy Ring

Last but not least, a new fitness ring may be released at the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. This gadget, which might be called the “Samsung Galaxy Ring,” would be made to compete with the Oura Ring and other similar wearables. The Samsung Galaxy Ring is likely to have features for tracking activities, monitoring heart rate, and analyzing sleep, just like other fitness trackers. The new product’s price and release date have not been made public yet.
