Xreal Air 2 Ultra Glasses: AR’s Future Arrives

The XREAL Air are augmented reality sunglasses that are advertised as “ultramodern AR glasses with an edge.” They claim to let you watch movies, stream, work, and play games anywhere you want without a bulky headset, a traditional gaming computer, or a lot of extra cables and wiring.

The Xreal Air 2 Ultra AR glasses were introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2024 (CES 2024), providing consumers and developers with an advanced and affordable solution for immersive spatial computing experiences. In contrast to traditional augmented reality glasses, this one is distinguished by its titanium ring frame, which combines fashion and functionality.

The glasses come equipped with two 3D environment sensors that are equipped with computer vision capabilities. These sensors allow for accurate location tracking within a 3D space. Additionally, the glasses offer hand tracking, the creation of 3D meshes, semantic scene understanding, and prospective artificial intelligence capabilities.

Xreal’s main focus is on AR, not VR, and its appeal is putting the equivalent of a 120-inch digital screen in front of users’ eyes for entertainment. The glasses boast high-definition viewing with full HD for each eye, a field-of-view (FOV) of 52°, and 42 pixels per degree (PPD), surpassing the capabilities of Apple Vision Pro. They also offer a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 500 nits, providing crisp and vibrant visuals.

In addition to surpassing ISO standards for image quality and viewing comfort, the Xreal Air 2 Ultra glasses have been certified by TÜV Rheinland for color accuracy, eye comfort, low blue light, and flicker-free usage. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2024, Xreal will present “The Spatial Life” experience, which will demonstrate an intuitive method of interacting with digital content. Developers are given the opportunity to unleash their creative potential by using the Mirage Shard Tracking Kit, which enables interaction through physical buttons within virtual interfaces.

The most recent version of the NRSDK, version 2.2, which is built on Unity and offers enhanced hand tracking, hand gesture recognition, and depth mesh with semantic labeling, is included in pre-orders for the Xreal Air 2 Ultra. The XREAL Air 2 Ultra is available for pre-order, and developers who have previously purchased Nreal Light glasses are eligible to receive a discount of $100.

During the third quarter of 2023, Xreal held a market share of 51% in the global augmented reality segment, making it the leader in terms of both revenue and shipment in the industry. These XREAL Air series AR glasses are Amazon’s best-selling products in the smart glasses category. To date, they have shipped a total of 350,000 pairs of AR glasses.
